Week 10: #23 The end?

It has been a very interesting and informative 10 weeks for me.
A little time consuming.....but mostly fun.
I was already aware of some of the exercises....youtube and meez for example.
Other things, like RSS feeds, Library Elf, Delicious, Podcasts, etc....I had never heard of.....
but they are also things that do not have a place in my internet use.
However, just because I do not have a need for them, it is still useful information to cram into my head...you know....just in case!
I'm not one to write a book on the matter.....I completed the course and I am more knowledgeable as a result. Hopefully, if presented with an opportunity, I can impart some of my newfound knowledge on others.
Thanks!

Week 9: #22 Downloadable media

I browsed the sites for downloadable media.....and found some very interesting childrens titles.
My daughter much prefers to "listen" to books than to actually "read" them, so I think this will be very useful for us.
I will definately download some digital titles for her soon!

Week 9: # 21....podcasts

I explored the podcasting sites and found some interesting podcasts on scrapbooking. However, they are pretty long and I do not have time at work to listen to the complete program. I'll do that at home when I have time.....LOL!....Yeah....its Christmas rush time....so it may be a while...sorry....

Week 9: #20 Discovering YouTube

YouTube is not a new experience for me. It certainly can be entertaining!
My daughter loves to look up clips of funny cats.
One of the exercises is to post a youtube clip into my blog...I did that earlier, however, so I won't do it again....

Have you ever had a dead squirrel dropped on you?

Well....I came this close to having one land on my head this morning!
You see....I was out in my back yard...when all of a sudden this huge hawk type bird swoops over my head...it was really low....and then plop! it drops its breakfast at my feet! It was a half-devoured squirrel! YUCK!

Week 8: #19 Web based Apps

I signed up for an account at Zoho Writer and took a look around.
I think this would be a great benefit if I did not already have a word document program on my computer. It still may hold benefits, even to those who do already own such programs.
I liked that it had templates you could use....I can see how those would come in handy.
It is easy to use....a major plus!
I guess it deserves a bookmark on my computer for future reference......

Week 8: #18 Social Networking

I watched the video and looked at some of the links provided.
Social networking is something I have been doing for years!
Although I do have a myspace account....I do not blog or post on it. I do, however, keep up with some of my friends via their myspace accounts, which is why I have one....
My favorite way of social networking is actually by participating on a chat board. There are tons of chatboards out there that cover a wide range of interests.
For example...I am a member of several chat boards based on scrapbooking. They have different forums for discussions on anything and everything...not just scrapbooking. So....I can scroll through the topics I am interested in, and join in the conversation if I want...or just gather information.
If ever I have a question or need advice or help with ...say...a product....all I have to do is post a new thread, ask for help, and VOILA!....within minutes I will have answers!
Its a very valuable resource for all sorts of information, and I make friends along the way as well.
I can also participate in swaps, challenges and contests....so much fun!

I also participate on other boards dedicated to other interests...and have made the most wonderful friends all over the world. It gives me the opportunity to reach out and "meet" people that have the same interests as I do, that I would never had known if not for the message boards.

Week 7: #17 Technology

I love technology. Its addictive! I love all the information you can find on the web.....
Although I am an eager learner and user of computer technology....I am a little behind in all the technological playthings such as mp3 players, cell phones, and pda's. Those things I have a problem with learning and using! I'm a pretty basic person and all I need are pretty basic items to play with. It drives me crazy to have a camera on my cell phone....I can't tell you how many pictures I have of the inside of my purse...ok....I can tell you, because I counted them once....its 19! and I can't figure out how to delete them! The manual for my phone is like....two inches thick! UGH!
But! I can play all day on a computer.....and figure that stuff out pretty easily.....so....there ya go!
I love that I can watch old tv shows on my computer....I've been having a Gidget marathon this past week.....and that I can access movies....and music.....
Oh! and I just got a really neat new device that hooks up to my computer that "prints" with a knife blade! So I can type out a word or input an image and then send it to my cutter and it will cut it out on paper or cardstock! So cool! So technical! And to think...I used to have to cut all that stuff out with an exacto knife and hope I didn't slice my finger off in the process!

Week 7 #16 Wiki's

I added my blog to the wiki sandbox site....
I do not rely on wiki's for accurate information...although they may serve a purpose for "fun" information....but since anyone can add anything they want, I do not see this as an absolute form of trustworthy information.

Week 6 #15 Library 2.0

I read all five of the perspectives......ok...so maybe its just because its late at night and I need some shut-eye....but it was not such interesting reading. I get what they were saying....that libraries need to be a step ahead, use technology to our advantage, think outside the box kinda stuff.
Yeah....I'll agree to a point. I still like the old actual book in hand approach and I think that will continue to be important to people in the future.

Did you ever do Glamour shots?

Well....I did....many,many years ago!
This is what they did to me......

I look nothing like that picture.....
My dad did not even recognize me....

WARNING! Do not open this link......

unless you want to see a handsome, shirtless man cleaning house.......

I could watch these guys clean house all day long......now....where can I find my hubby one of those gladiator outfits.......hmmmm.......

Week 6: #14 exploring Technorati

Hmmm.....I went and poked around at Technorati.....and I must say......those lists of top rated and favorite blogs....well....they do not make my list of favorites. I really have to wonder why so many people are reading those!
I come across very interesting blogs in a much different manner.....via personal recommendations! I think I'll stick with that manner.....good old-fashioned word of mouth.....can't beat it.

Week 6: #13

I went to del.icio.us and viewed the video.....I also created an account.
After looking around a bit, I was not all that impressed. I guess I'm the old dog who does not like to learn new tricks. I think I'll stick with my old ways of bookmarking sites....but thanks for the heads up anyways. I may bookmark it for use later....'cause "you never know!" LOL!.....ok....you would have to have watched my Jumper trailer to get that little bit of humor.....

Week 5: #12 Library Elf

I managed to log onto the Library Elf site.....but I do not think it is something I wish to use.
I can see that it may be helpful for someone who does not already receive this type of information from their library....or someone wanting to combine accounts/information.....but it is not for me.

Thursday, October 11, 2007

Here is a preview for a new movie based on Steven Gould's "Jumper" books....
By putting it into my blog, I am entered into a chance to win a free trip for two to anywhere! So wish me luck!
I actually did win a trip to London once......back when I was in high school. I filled out about a million entry forms from some candy company...MM/Mars I think.....and actually won a trip for two to London for a week! Bummer that I could not go....my parents went instead......so I'm thinking they owe me a trip.....
Anyways...enjoy the trailer! It looks like an awesome adaptation of the books!

Week 5: #11 Library Thing

OK...I have set up my account at Library Thing and added my five books.

Here is the link to my "library".....

I have added three of Steven Gould's sci-fi books.....His "Jumper" series....
and here is a picture of Steven Gould.....

He is all excited because the trailer for the movie "Jumper" has just been released......he's excited because he's gonna make a boatload of money off his books now! LOL!
This is what he posted on his blog site:
just saw the trailer for Jumper.Let’s just say “It doesn’t suck.”Oh my god, this is going to be HUGE!

(Yes, the trailer isn’t supposed to be released until midnight tonight (EDT) but the international trailer apparently went online last night.)

Yes they made changes but I’m delighted at how much from the books is showing up onscreen.

Here....I'll give you the link to the trailer....'cause I'm in such a generous mood today....Its gonna be a great movie! Jumper trailer link

I also put a digital scrapbooking book on my list.....and the fifth book? Well.....its this one!
Yeah! Porn For Women! Now....hold on....don't be thinking that! LOL!
This book has no naked men in it.....instead there are men doing things that really make a woman hot....Things like:

I may have to make this one my requested book next year.....

Week 5: #10 Image Generators

I have played around with avatars a lot already. I did browse through the sites listed in this exercise...but I prefer making my own avatars in Photoshop.
The one you see here is one I made that I feel reflects me pretty well. It says:
I live in fantasyland....and I have oceanfront property! Yup! That about sums it up for me! LOL!
Its fun to make avatars and switch them around depending on the site I am using them for.....I also enjoy making siggie bars to go at the end of my posts......Unfortunately, I cannot post some of those here....don't want to let you in on too many of my secrets...**wink wink**
If I find some spare time...I'll make one up especially for here!

I have also meezed before ...that is fun as well....let me see if I can pull up my old meeze for you...
See....I'm reading the books that I am supposed to be shelving!

Steve Martin- King Tut SNL

My daughter is doing a book report on King Tut....and it also involves making King Tut out of a 2 Liter soda bottle....
So we're working in researching King Tut. I go to on the internet to look up some images of Tut to use and came across this youtube clip from SNL in 1978.....back when SNL was funny....

...oh! you may need to hit the pause button on my playlist before playing this clip--------->

Week 4 : #8....

I've been reading the info on the RSS feeds.....there is a lot of material to cover...
I did set up my BlogLines and subscribed to some feeds...not up to 10 quite yet as it takes a lot of time to dig through the choices.....and not much there really appeals to me I'm afraid. I guess I like trivial type information...I'm not one to read the newspaper or watch the news on TV.
If I want to find out what is going on in the world......I just read the NSBR thread at the scrapbooking message board. Those gals post about everything! I mean....EVERYTHING!
For instance: when I logged on today and zipped through the threads...I found out all kinds of "important" stuff:
......I found a thread on frugal shopping tips
......I learned about the Hannah Montana ticket sales outrages and why there is such a heated uproar from parents all around the country who cannot find the tickets at a reasonable price...
.....I found out what to google in order to find naked pictures of Brad Pitt....uh.....yeah.....they are out there all right! LOL! (can I just say this: Brad, dear.....you need to do a little trimming, hon!)
.....I found out that Britney Spears lost custody of her kids
.....I found "Survivor" spoilers
.....I found ideas for dinner as well as recipes for Pot Roast
.....I learned about the "Lost" reference in last nights episode of "Chuck"
.....I found a link to the first two chapters of John Grisham's new book
.....I found out where I can order a calendar featuring shirtless Mormon missionaries...and while I'm on that subject....I'm wondering why the heck the cutie Mormon missionaries are all being sent to the third world countries and I only get the geeky looking ones at my door....hmmm.
.....and I learned what games are funnest for Wii
and on and on and on and on......
I doubt I could have acquired all this knowledge from any RSS feeds.....so...sorry...but I do not think I'm going to be a fan of the RSS ....it just doesn't cater to me....at least from what I have seen so far.

Week 3: #7 Photo Editing Tools

Boo......
Originally uploaded by scrappydooo
I looked around at the photo editing tools for the various sites listed. I have PSE, so I'll just stick to that for my photo editing needs, however.
I did think that the pencil drawing tool was kinda neat...so I used that one on Boo....

Week 3: #6 More Flickr Fun

I looked around at the Flickr apps.....they were....meh.....I don't know what use I would have for most of them, however...the trading card app looked interesting....I may have to play around with that one later.

Week 3: #5, Discover Flickr

Boo......

Pets! Yes....we have pets! we have so many pets that I often times think we live in a zoo. Here are just a few of our pets.....
First up is Boo....he (she?) is a Mexican Double Yellow Head Parrot. We got him as a baby over 20 years ago!
He can speak and, if properly coaxed, will sing "I Left My Heart in San Francisco".....(off-key...but thats my fault!).
He loves my yellow crocs! Whenever I wear them, he will waddle down off his perch and follow me. If he catches up to me....he gets a little "amorous" with my shoes! Silly Boo!

Here is the cat.....Princess.

Cats are really pretty useless....this is what she does

all day long! Sleep! Just sleep! Man....I wanna come back as a cat in my next life....

Funny fact about cats: if placed in a large box of styrofoam packing peanuts....they will sink to the bottom of the box. Then...when their feet hit the bottom, they will catapult themselves out of the box....covered with packing peanuts....and tear down the hall. Its really a pretty funny sight....but after about three times of cleaning up packing peanuts from all over the house my daughter made me stop doing it.....sigh!

We also have two black pugs...Lucy and Molly.

Lucy is old and getting grey...like me!
Pugs are wonderful dogs...but they sure do shed.
The shed a lot! ......and they snore....a lot.....

Discovery Exercise week 2:

Learning habits.......
Well, I seem to learn best by doing....and I like to have visual aids to follow.
I have so many "how to" books at home...funny thing is....you actually have to read them in order to get any use out of them! Imagine that! So.....book learning is not the route for me.

Next: Thoughts on online safety and privacy.....
Well....I have been posting online for many years now. Not on a blog, but rather on various chat boards.....chatting away on a nearly daily basis with others who share my interests and hobbies. At first, I used a made-up nickname....but later, after getting to know the women I chatted with, I felt comfortable in using my real name....it just made it more "personal" that way. I feel I have always been careful in posting not to reveal too much personal information publicly. I've read the "horror stories" about posting too much personal info where anyone can read it, but I don't let them deter me from establishing online friendships. I've "met" some of the best people that way. Its weird to think that I have so many "friends" all around the world that I have never (and most likely never will) met in real life....but I know so much about them, and we have so much in common, that that is irrelevant.

Missouri.....what can I say.....

So my hubby and I just got back from a three day trip to St. Joseph, MO.....ahhhhh....Missouri....
what can I say about Missouri......It certainly is not Houston!
We stayed downtown for three days...and I swear!...we have more traffic going through our neighborhood on a daily basis than I saw in all of downtown St. Joseph over the course of those three days! Its definately a much slower paced place to live!
The reason we were there was to attend a celebration.
The family owned business my hubby works for is celebrating its 100th year! Quite an accomplishment. Here is one of the many buildings the company occupies in downtown St. Joseph. It is where they manufacture products, such as floor cleaners, waxes and polishes. (exciting stuff)

We also got to tour some of the local museums.....In one of them, there was this big ball of twine....
It weighed over a thousand pounds! I'm just glad my daughter was not there to see it....she would want to try and outdo it!

and now something a little different...

Recipes......

What is digital scrapping?

What...you may ask.....is digital scrapping?
Well....its a form of scrapbooking utilizing a graphics program with digital elements and photos to create and store memories.
While I remain a traditional paper and glue type scrapbooker, I also enjoy the quick, no mess to clean up option of digital scrapping as well. I am currently using this method to make my own, personal recipe album. Care to take a look?
